Geopolitical shifts are reshaping business strategy, supply chain stability, and regulatory exposure – and in-house counsel are tasked with navigating the changing landscape.

This webinar, Risk radar: Supply chains, the technology race, and global uncertainty, brought together former UK Prime Minister Lord David Cameron (London) and former US Senator Richard Burr (Washington, DC) to discuss key considerations related to supply chains, the technology race, and geopolitical events.

This session presented practical insights for in-house counsel looking to mitigate geopolitical risk and drive strategic decision-making in an evolving global environment.

Lord David Cameron

Lord David Cameron, former UK Prime Minister, brings an extraordinary wealth of knowledge and experience to this discussion. Lord Cameron served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2010 to 2016, leading Britain’s first coalition government since the Second World War and later a majority Conservative government.

In a surprise return to frontline politics in 2023, Lord Cameron rejoined the UK government as Foreign Secretary amid a period of significant global upheaval, including the October 7th massacre in Israel and the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This past June, Lord Cameron joined DLA Piper as a Consultant, offering clients his unparalleled insights into navigating complex global challenges. With more than two decades at the forefront of world affairs, he brings a unique perspective on the issues shaping today’s geopolitical landscape, and we are honored to have him with us.

Senator Richard Burr

Senator Richard Burr is Principal Policy Advisor within DLA Piper’s Regulatory and Government Affairs practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Senator Burr represented North Carolina in the United States Congress for nearly three decades.

Senator Burr is a former Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. During his tenure, he helped drive the intelligence community’s shift toward confronting modern threats and advised sectors ranging from banking to manufacturing to academia on risks posed by malign actors worldwide. As Chairman, Senator Burr positioned the committee as the Senate’s de facto technology committee, educating others on the threats and opportunities presented by 5G modernization, semiconductor-related supply chain vulnerabilities, and emerging technologies.

Senator Burr also served as Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, where he spearheaded legislation on pandemic preparedness and response and modernization of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

Karina Lynch

Karina Lynch is a Partner and Chair of DLA Piper’s Government Affairs and Public Policy group in Washington, DC. In her role, she leads the firm’s engagement on complex regulatory and policy issues and guides clients through the fast‑moving landscape in Washington.

Karina brings deep experience from her five years on Capitol Hill, where she served as counsel to key Senate committees and led major hearings on Medicare, Medicaid, and federal oversight. She also served as investigative counsel to Senator Charles Grassley, focusing on fraud and abuse in federal healthcare programs.
