On 1 January 2021, subject to the terms of any negotiated trade deal, the UK and the EU’s trade policies will diverge for the first time in over forty years. In London, a new Department of International Trade has been created to breathe life into the Government’s vision for “global Britain”. In Brussels, the European Commission is seeking to balance a commitment to open trade against a renewed focus on protectionist measures from within its ranks. Both London and Brussels will be looking towards Washington and the direction that a new Biden administration takes on a range of trade issues.

Therefore, change is on the way. There will be significant shifts in how trade policy is developed and implemented, which will affect how EU and UK businesses trade with each other and with the rest of the world.

DLA Piper’s Government Trade & Regulatory Affairs team in partnership with the International Business and Diplomatic Exchange will explore the key post-Brexit trade issues that affect your business. Throughout this panel discussion moderated by IBDE, we’ll discuss the UK and EU viewpoints as well as wider internal developments on global trade, including the potential impact of the US Presidential election.
