Uncertainty, increasing competition, new technology, automation, artificial intelligence, globalisation, more complexity, less resources… these are issues facing us all. How do we create solutions and operate in this world? Design Thinking as a methodology has been around for decades in Design, but we are hearing about it increasingly often in arenas outside of product design. Why? It's an iterative process designed to tackle the unknown, understand clients/users, challenge assumptions, redefine problems and create innovative solutions to prototype and test. It's a set of methodologies that enables a different mind-set to be applied to the challenges we are facing: one that puts empathy and client experience at the centre of everything. It's not about solving the problem as initially stated; it's about challenging underlying assumptions, ensuring you explore the problem, and suspend judgement in order to design creative solutions with everything revolving around the client's experience of the solution.

Jana Blount, DLA Piper's Change Maker, and Mayowa Odusote, DLA Piper's Design Lead, will provide a high level explanation of design thinking and offer some useful cases of how DLA Piper has utilised a design thinking approach to work with clients.
